Vintage 1965 Fender Jaguar Lake Placid Blue Refin with Matching Headstock
Up for sale is a killer players grade vintage mid ’65 (L-Series) Fender Jaguar that remains highly original and finished in a stunning Lake Placid Blue refinish with a matching headstock. The refinish was done a long time ago, classic custom color look while retaining the unmistakable feel and tone of a real mid 60s Jaguar. 8.2 Lbs, which is average to lightweight for a Jaguar, and it balances very well on a strap.
This instrument is clearly as a serious player’s grade vintage Fender and probably not for the collector, which is fully reflected in the asking price. It is an honest, well loved, and extremely playable vintage instrument meant to be used and enjoyed. For the right player, this represents an excellent opportunity to own an incredible ’65 Jaguar at a reasonably low price point.
It’s a nice example of the early transitional CBS period, still retaining many Pre-CBS appointments. These include the original L Series neck plate stamped L88xxx, the original white nitrocellulose celluloid pickguard commonly referred to as mint but technically the earlier white formulation with the thicker middle black layer, an unbound neck with pearl dot inlays, the small pre CBS style headstock, and original Kluson tuners with only one replaced unit on the high E that has been swapped for a newer matching Fender reissue. These details make it especially appealing to players who want authentic Pre CBS feel and specs without paying collector level premium.
The guitar retains its original body with no routing, the original neck, original pickups, original pots and complete electronics, the original tremolo arm assembly, the original mute kit, original knobs, original control plates, and original string trees. The bridge currently installed is a newer Vintage Reissue Mustang bridge, which is a very common and cool upgrade that improves stability and playability. A Jaguar Reissue bridge is also included in the case. The bone nut is newer, professionally cut, and works perfectly.
Worth full disclosure, there is very very light oversanding near the upper horn by the strap button and another small area near the input jack at the bottom of the body. Both areas are subtle, not easily noticeable, and have no impact on structural integrity, tone, or playability. Other than that and the obvious refin, all routs and cavities remain unmolested. All typical controls, including the Rhythm/Lead Control works, 2 out of the 3 toggle pickup switches (The ones for each on/off pickup) work, the third which usually is the mid-tone cut switch is currently inactive, however it can be easily re-engaged. There is evidence of a prior tuner change resulting in a small extra screw hole, now covered with the original Kluson tuners reinstalled, and it has no compromise at all on the functionality.
The neck has been professionally re-fretted with medium jumbo 6150 frets by 13th Street Guitars in Huntington Beach, CA. A full Plek job was done at the same time, resulting in exceptionally smooth playability, fretwork and comfortably low action throughout the neck. The whole neck including the matching headstock has been refinished and carries a newer Fender decal. it feels very smooth with moderate playwear.
It comes with a newer Fender G&G Silver Tweed hard case with its case keys, which is a high quality case and an excellent match for this instrument.
The guitar ships out professionally packed and fully insured to Continental US and some select international destinations.
